About This Manual

Top  Previous  Next

This manual is a work-in-progress. AggreGate is a very large system, and is in a continuous process of development, enhancement and debugging. In this manual, the AggreGate documentation team attempts to play "catch-up" with the ever-increasing pace of AggreGate development.

Thus, we would recommend you to keep a few points in mind while reading this text:

Due to the sheer extent of AggreGate, there's a definite learning curve to the system. We have attempted to use a gradient approach throughout the manual, with many topics building on earlier topics. Please try to read the manual in-sequence wherever possible - like a textbook. This applies especially to the System Basics, Parts of The System and System Internals sections. Read these three in-sequence, and try to maintain the sequence within the sections as well.
If you do decide to skip around and use the manual as a reference, please skip to earlier topics when you come across a term you're unfamiliar with. Terms are usually defined when they're first introduced in the text.
The same system component might have several topics dedicated to it, requiring different levels of familiarity with the system. You can always look for an earlier topic dealing with the same system component -- it'll have simpler explanations.
Above all, we strive to provide easy-to-read, easy-to-follow documentation, which is accurate yet friendly. We recognize our users are real people who want to get something done with the system, and we hope this manual will help. Good luck.
