Dynamic DNS

Top  Previous  Next

Dynamic DNS plugin is the Data Transfer/Device Plugin that is enabled for newly created Device Server accounts, as specified by the default value of the Default Data Transfer/Device Plugin global configuration setting. This plugin simply discards any data received from the Device Server and never tries to send anything to it. It is called Dynamic DNS because it allows Device Server to login to LinkServer, get registered in DNS and then disconnect. It can be also used to test Device Server connections.

note_tip-wt

Despite the name of this plugin, Dynamic DNS functionality is built-in to the LinkServer core. Dynamic DNS plugin just helps Device Servers to stay connected after logging in. It acts like a "stub" that does nothing with a connected Device Server. It other words, it maintains an active connection without any actual data transfer. While the connection is active, a user can check a Device Server's status, configure, reboot or buzz it etc. See more info in the Device Servers chapter.
